Pakistan Zindabad!!

I ask that our senior members be so kind as to tell us in their own words what they think of the PSA, and if they can tell us a bit more about the history of the PSA. As I get their replies, they will be posted.

Bilal one our Senior members writes:

The PSA at BU was initially started somewhere in the mid 80's but due to lack of members was never an active group until it was revived in by a student, now a doctor, named Asim Ahmed. He started the PSA's comeback with a cultural show that was only half an hour and was part of an international fair, known as The World Fair. It was an event much anticipated at BU because of its festival atmosphere as people from all over Boston came to these International events to learn and see culture at its best. The show was a success, and suddenly in the year of 1991, we had a huge influx of Pakistanis, from the native land as well as from around here..When Arshad Ashraf was president, the PSA reached a membership total of over 120..suprisingly most were not even Pakistani..

When I came to my first psa meeting, i saw all these people from all over the world..the energy level in the room was spine tingling, ideas were being thrown around like frisbees, and before you knew it, the first PSA show as we know it today was born..a show that collaberated the efforts of students with various talents, and ideas into a fascinating display of color, vibrance and heritage. being part of any club open doors to friendships, faith and identification with the cause of that club. But the PSA meant more to me than that..it was chance in a lifetime to represent my culture and country in way that only so few could accomplish at such an international institution as BU. A drop of water falling into the vast sea may be easily swallowed to be one with the elements of water..but..to cause a ripple on the surface is something else..i see the psa as that ripple..with each show or event we did , the BU community became aware of a group of devoted individuals who gave the club its all, to create a lasting image. soon that image was spread to the other campuses in Boston, and eventually made it into the homes of many families in this area.

The group at psa each year has but one duty...to show the community what we are about, what is important to us, and to display it such a way that we get a message across in doing so...modestly speaking, i can say from my experience that we have come a long way...we have the capability of putting on one of the best shows at bu each semester..we easily outdo any other organization when it comes to what we accomplish with the size of our student body...it goes to show what hard work and dedication can do for a cause that may be as simple as an inviting hand. we at bu are constantly inviting others to join us, and be a part of our heritage through song, dance, acting, sports, and simply put..friendship. It is this familiarity and friendship that has served us well over the past six years i've been here, without it psa would never have been a success.
