Installation de encarta atlas 2000 sur le disque dur. (english text below)

1. copier fakecd.exe dans C:\

2. choisir une lettre de lecteur libre, dans cet exemple I:

3. ajouter la ligne suivante à la fin de Autoexec.bat:
fakecd c:\cd-rom /l:I
soit attribuer à c:\cd-rom la lettre de lecteur CD I:\

4. créer le dossier c:\cd-rom

5. copier le contenu DES DEUX CD encarta directement dans ce dossier, ne pas
créer de sous-dossiers séparés pour les 2 CD.
(les recoupements de fichiers ne posent pas problème)

6. redémarrer. Vérifier dans le poste de travail que le disque
I: est bien présent, et a l'icône d'un lecteur CD (ou de l'encyclopédie
Encarta).

7. lancer l'installation depuis le CD Installation et Ressources:

8. A la fin de l'installation, après le redémarrage, il faut
corriger certains éléments du registre:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Reference\Encarta Virtual Globe\2000\F
Remplacer toutes les lettres de lecteur CD (par exemple D) par la lettre de lecteur I.
Il faut également corriger les sous-niveaux de cette branche.

Remarque: 8 est réalisé automatiquement par le fichier Atlas_2000.reg ci-inclus.
Attention: ne l'utiliser que si le disque d'installation est I:\
Sinon, éditez ce fichier dans le Notepad pour y entrer vos valeurs !

11. Une fois que tout fonctionne bien, je vous recommande de déplacer (ou supprimer)
les 4 fichiers suivants:
I:\autorun.ini, I:\autorun.inf, I:\autorun.ico, I:\autorun.exe
Cela supprime l'icône Encarta du disque I:\ dans le poste de travail.

12. Problèmes connus

1.Si le programme continue d'afficher "veuillez introduire le CD-ROM", il faut supprimer
le nom de volume du disque dur qui abrite le disque I:
Poste de travail, clic droit sur le disque dur, propriétés, Nom de Volume, vider la fenêtre.

2.Quand tout fonctionne, vous pouvez ajouter > nul à la fin de la ligne fakecd
(fakecd c:\dc-rom /l:I > nul). Ceci empêche l'affichage de mise en route de fakecd.

3.Il est indipensable de supprimer cette ligne avant d'installer (ou de réinstaller) Windows.

4.Consultez PCST pour d'éventuelles mises à jour !


How to run Encarta Atlas 2000 directly from your HD
---------------------------------------------------

1. copy fakecd.exe on your hard drive (C:\)

2. choose a free drive letter (I:\ in this example)

3. add the following line to Autoexec.bat
fakecd c:\cd-rom /l:I
(attrib. the CD drive letter I:\ to c:\cd-rom )

4. create the directory c:\cd-rom

5. copy the content of both CD directly into this directory, without creating
separate subdirectories (redundant files and directories are not a problem).

6. reboot. check in My Computer that the drive I:\ is present, and that it
appears as a CD (or with the encarta icon).

7. Run the installer from the genuine CD.

8. After installing, after you've rebooted, you'll need to make some changes
to the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Reference\Encarta Virtual Globe\2000\F
Replace all CD drive letters by your FakeCD letter. You must also check all sub-levels
of this key.

REM 8. is made automatically by the file Atlas_2000.reg (included in this pack).
Attention: do only use it if you use the drive I:\ as fake CD, like in this example,
or edit it so that it meets your needs !

11. When you're finished and you are sure that everything works fine, I recommand
to move (or delete) the following four files:
I:\autorun.ini, I:\autorun.inf, I:\autorun.ico, I:\autorun.exe
This will prevent the icon of the I: drive in My Computer to appear with
the encarta icon.

12. Troubleshooting

1.If the program still displays something like "Please insert the disk in the drive", you should
remove the volume label of the hard drive containing the I: drive.
My computer, right click on the drive, properties, volume label, empty this window.

2.You got it, everything works fine now... You can retain fakecd to indicate that it's starting
by adding > nul at the end of the fakecd line (fakecd c:\encarta /l:I > nul).

3.It's absolutely necessary to remove this line from autoexec.bat before to install (or
reinstall) Windows.

4.Check PCST for updates !
