The Inspiration for This Insanity

This is Jodie. Many of you met her briefly on my Home Page, but I thought that I would just take this time to tell you a little more about her so that you can understand why she is the one and only, original Patchwork Pup.

First, I would like to take this opportunity to support local animal shelters. You see, Jodie isn't puppy mill stock from some over-priced pet store. She's from the Charles County Humane Society, one of the many wonderful shelters in Maryland that gives abandoned and unwanted animals another chance to find a loving home. If you are considering buying a puppy or a kitten, please consider going to a local shelter before going to the mall. These animals in shelters are not only a fraction of the cost, but they are also just as wonderful, if not better than any animal you could buy in a pet store.

Now, what makes Jodie a Patchwork Pup? Well, she literally is a patchwork puzzle of various breeds. Her lineage consists of Labrador Retriever, Dalmation, Siberian Husky, Aardvark, Meer Cat, and Gazelle (well, I'm just guessing on those last three). Though she is mostly Labrador, her "cranial shape and truncal musculature is indicative of Dalmation genes" (I think our veterinarian just likes to hear himself talk sometimes, and if he has to, he'll make words up just to be able to keep talking...truncal? I don't think so). She has a black overcoat like a Labrador's, while her undercoat is thick and gray/brown like a Husky's. In some parts, her undercoat shows through, making her fur look almost candy-striped in several places. Also, she has a beautiful white stripe of fur down her front and her tail curls into an almost perfect O, which sometimes makes her look like she has a handle.

As you can tell, she has one blue eye thanks to her Husky lineage. Contrary to some beliefs, she is not blind in this eye-- it's not damaged, just different. She also has an incredibly long tongue, which she sometimes has trouble keeping in her mouth...it does make her look a *little* on the doofy side, but it's still cute.

That's pretty much all that I'll say here...the rest can be found throughout the pages in this site. The question you will all have to answer is what parts are true and what are the demented fabrications of Jodie's owner. I'll never tell...and neither will she.
