Once and Again
Well, summer school ended three weeks ago, and normal school started
immediately after that. That last math final almost killed me! I've
never felt so miserable in my whole life... well, maybe that bit of
dental work I had to endure a couple years back is comparable... but
the math final was up there with the biggies. There is a happy
ending though! YAY! I got an A in that class! I'm still a little
disturbed at the fact that the "+" part of the A is gone.. but hey,
it's still a 4.00 on the transcript! I'm not sure I'm upto the emotional
trauma of actually seeing how marked up the test is, considering the
final grade is curved down to 64% is an A-. Wow, scary. Yes kids,
when they say grade on a curve in college, they mean business!
Now that the Summer School portion of this page is over, let's get
on with what this page is really about: College! This year, I'm
starting my second year at Berkeley, and lots of things have changed.
First off, I have all new neighbors living in the dorm. Most of them
are new students, and it's been fun seeing how excited they are about
college! Most of this excitement will probably taper off by the end of
finals week, but let's enjoy it while it lasts.
Also, now that I've got a better feel of my major and college in general,
I know the types of questions that professors want to hear. Instead of
asking them how to do number 6 on the homework (no no, never ask that,
save that for the Teaching Assistants or Graduate Student Instructor),
I ask questions like: "so this is what you do in this class, do you
recommend any other classes? What kinds of jobs does this major lead
to." Professors live for that kind of stuff, not to mention you
get a lot of good info about grad school, special programs for your
major and other goodies to help you.
Also, the dining commons food is actually decent now! Wow, I mean,
you can eat the stuff and not get sick! It's.. it's...
FOOD!!!!
Let's Eat!
A problem with decent food, though, is that everyone wants to eat some,
so the lines at the Dining Commons (DC) are much longer than last year.
On bad days, one would have to wait for about a half an hour between
getting in line, to sitting at a table to start eating. It really is
annoying when you just got back from class and really really want to eat,
or if you needed to get to a club meeting in fifteen minutes. It's
a price to pay when there's good food to eat, I guess.
