Functions and Operations

Sometimes conversations revolve around objects or machines whose function and purpose are unclear or interesting. For example, you may want to explain to an American what an abacus is and how it is used. You might want to explain to your employees how to use a new machine. In this lesson the student will practice using phrases that explain funtions and operations in chronological order.

Phrases:
1. The first thing you do is ...
2. Then you ...
3. Next you ...
4. After that you ... 
5. Finally you ...  

 

Directions:
1. First, name an object one of the pictures below.
2. After that, describe the purpose of the object.
3. Next, explain step by step how to use the object.
4. Then, go on to the next object of your choice.
5. Finally, repeat steps 1-4 until you have described 
   each object.

 

Additional objects:
abacus, car, motorcycle, computer, gun, alarm clock
