Criteria for Course Grade
Readings and Homework READINGS
Over the course of the year you will be reading a number of different literary texts, (including but not limited to novels, short stories, poetry and plays). All assigned readings are to be completed prior the assigned due date. If readings are not completed on time it will result in ANNOYING, SUPRISE QUIZZES.
HOMEWORK/CLASSWORK Homework/Classwork assignments may include readings, worksheets, essay topics, or projects. It is expected that homework will be turned in on the assigned due date wihout exception. There will be a 25% deduction in the total grade for every day the assignment is late. Classwork is due at the end of the class period unless otherwise indicated. There will be no make-up work assigned unless prior arraingement is made with the Instructor.

JOURNALS
Students will be writing in a journal periodically through the course. Students are responsible to bring their own journal (Spiral notebooks, no three ring binders or loose leaf paper). The Instructor will provide journals at the beginning of the term for $0.50 for a limited time. Journal entries will either be in response to a given topic or free written during class. The journals will be collected each quarter for evaluation and grading.
LECTURE NOTEBOOK
At the end of each semester students will be responsible to turn in a lecture notebook consisting of all notes, assignments and handouts given during that given semester. Since notes can be used on exams, good notetaking is essential.
SIMULATION
At some point during the course (probably first semester) the class will be participating in a simulation. A major portion of your grade will be basedon your participation in this simulation. The simulation will be a combiantion of classroom activities, homework assignments, group work and individual presentations. More information will be given when we begin the simulation.

Other Graded Materials
Exams
Exams will consist of Fill in the Blank, Short Answer, and Essay/Discussion Questions. There will be both a Mid Term and a Final exam to be given at the end of each semester. In addition, there will be periodical exams given to ensure that student's are grasping the basic concepts in a given novel or section of the course. Literature exams will be open note and students will be allowed to use the novel or literary work on that given exam only. Grammer and Vocabulary exams will not be open note or book.
