LAWS OF CLONING
" UK law
Genetic and fertility research is heavily regulated in the UK through the human Fertilization and Embryology act ( 1990 ) . Although human cloning using nuclear transfer is not banned by this piece of legislation any research in this area would require a licence from the Human Fertilization and Embryology Authority, and it has been explicitly stated that such a licence would be refused.

European law
Thirteen of forty members of the Council of Europe have signed the first international treaty explicity banned cloning, and another seven members are reported to be considering signing into the deal. The signatories are Demark, Finland , France, Greece, Iceland, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Spain, Sweden and Turkey. The treaty is and extension to the European convention on human rights and biomedicine, bans all human cloning , although it allows the cloning of individual cells for research purpose.

USA law
The situation is far less clear in United State where traditionally most fertility research has been carried out in the private sector, where financial considerations may outweigh ethical ones. The situation is made even more complicated by the distiction between state laws and federal laws. So far only one state ( California ) has passed anti cloning legislation, although 21 other states are considering it. President Clinton has passed a law prohibiting the use of federal money to research human cloning. There are however no federal laws forbiding private funding for human cloning researchˇ@
