Any horse owner shoud know at least a bit of first aid. If you are a horse owner you should have at least a basic first aid kit. If you have more than one horse then you SHOULD have a complete first aid kit. A basic first aid kit contains: A strech bandage (Elastoplast). A ROLL of cotton wool. Blunt edged scissors. Epsom salt. Antiseptic spray (cetrigen is fly repelent and antiseptic). Your vet's phone number. Saniterium pads (they absorb if it is pussy or bleeding for in an emergency). Water spray (Just take an old spray bottle and be sure it's clean then put water in it). All these things aren't as expensaive. Take these when you travel as wel/ My vet even told me that if your horse ever has a wound, like a REAL big cut that needs stiching never stress! Most people when they find their horse with a huge cut they stress and call the vet but the easiest time the vet can stich it up is after about 48 hours. Most people want the vet's to stich it as fast as possible so the skin doesn't die, but it is already to late and sometimes if the vet stiches is up so early the dead skin underneath could cause trouble and break the stitching. Horses are naturaly dirty animals. If the bit cut is dirty don't hose it! It increases the blood flow to that area and the sand can stop most of the blood. This all sounds very stupid, I know but it doesn't matter. | ||||||||||||||||
