Cetiosaurus (SEAT-ee-oh-sore-us)
A Middle-Late Jurassic sauropod from Western Europe and North Africa [Greek keteio, "sea monster"]. Cetiosaurus got very big. It had a relatively long neck (although shorter than some later sauropods), long back, a rather short, light tail and probably had a blunted head with spoon-shaped teeth. A giant skeleton found in Morocco in 1979 had a 200 cm long thigh-bone, taller than everyone exept the tallest humans. It's 165 cm long shoulder-blade was about the hight of a average woman. Brachiosaurs probably evolved from creatures such as the Cetiosaurus.
