Deinonychus (die-NON-ik-us)
An Early Cretaceous theropod from Western USA [Greek deinos, "terrible" + onychos, "claw"]. Deinonychus was one of the largest dromaeosaurs. Like the others it had a short, first toe with a claw that pointed backwards. The second toe had a claw that was almost 13 centimeters long. The weight layed on the long third and fourth toe on each foot.
