Diplodocus (di-PLOD-oh-kus)
A Late Jurassic sauropod from USA (Colorado, Montana, Utah and Wyoming)[Greek diplos, "double" + dokos, "beam"]. Diplodocus got its name from the middle caudal vertebra, which had forward and backward protection from the blood vessels when the tail was dragged along the ground. This was one of the longest of all dinosaurs, but it had thin legs and was rather light.
