Oviraptor (oh-vi-RAP-tor)
A Late Cretaceous theropod from Southern Mongolia [Latin ovum, "egg" + raptor, "robber"]. Oviraptor had a short head, a deep, short beek and powerful jaws. The lower jaw was crooked upwards and was shaped to help the animal crush the hard food it fed from. Oviraptor had prehensile hands with three fingers and claws. The first finger bore the first claw, which was about 8 cm long. Each foot had four toes, but only the second, third and fourth were big enough to function. They bore crooked claws that were flattened from the sides.
