Psittacosaurus (si-TAK-oh-sore-us)


An Early Cretaceous ceratopsian from Mongolia, east and north-west China and southern Sibiria. [Greek psittako, "parrot"]. Psittacosaurus had a deep, tooth-less beak, relatively few molars, eyes and nostrils placed high up on the sides of its head, and short "bone-thorns" on both sides of the head. One type of Psittacosaurus had a small horn on its nose. Each hand had only four large fingers that were used when the animal ate.
