The terrarium was a major fad in the United States during the 1970s. The Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature listed over 30 terrarium articles in the 1970s, including articles for teenagers, parents, and senior citizens. By comparison, only two terrarium articles were listed for the last decade. Today the terrarium is not nearly as popular as a home decoration. However, it is still very important in biology teaching.
