 These are questions and answers that I've compiled over time...the stuff you won't find on the Fortunecity FAQ pages. These questions and answers are about problems caused by Fortunecity's technical difficulties. This will help you prevent from going into a complete mental breakdown if, for instance, you find out that your beloved site is wiped out of your account. I'll add more as I go along, so feel free to contact me with more questions about Fortunecity's follies. Oh, and one little note. This is not intended to make fun or mock Fortunecity's abilities in any way, this is just a slightly cynical, funny way of explaining why some things just, well, don't work around here.:) My site won't show up on the net! I'm sure alot of ya had this problem when Fortunecity introduced the new shorter urls. I remember this happening with the other ones as well. See, the thing is this almost always means that you are missing most, if not all, of your data in your account. Skip to Number 3 if this is the problem. If it's not, there is also another possibility. The servers that take responsibility of redirecting to your site with the url you have is not operational. Don't worry, stuff like this is taken care of within the day. If it's really bad, then count on two or three. There is one or more servers holding all that data from your account. Back to Top Noooo! My account has been cleared out! I have probably heard of this problem a thousand times over, including from me. It is the scariest nightmare you experience. The site you have worked on for over a year has been wiped out completely, and you don't have the backup files. There are servers that hold the data in your account. If that servers goes down, your account will look empty. It isn't, rest assure. But you still can't access it until the server is back online. This will also cause your site not to show up on the web. Don't fret and delete your account. All you can really do is wait until the problem's fixed. Back to Top I can't log into my account using FTP! This problem is very, very, very annoying. I don't really know why this happens; I'm guessing that the FTP address is not operational or that the server that holds your account data is acting up. I hate it when this happens because it will just cut me off right in the middle of uploading. When this happens, I just leave it alone for 2 hours and try again. Back to Top You %$@!-ing piece of &^*$! My account won't upload my files!> All these answers have a certain theme to them. Server problems. When you upload files from the filemanager, and they either give you error messages or load them without their vital data, try about two more times, then try ftping them. These little glitches will probably last for an hour or more, or maybe as quickly as twenty minutes. Sometimes Fortunecity will be working on their servers while you're trying to do stuff with your account and site, so things will be temporarily put offline and other annoying stuff such as that. Back to Top Why isn't my FC mail account deleting my old mail?!? I've been pondering the same question. I've been deleting my messages, but my trash will not be emptied. Since Commtouch conveniently gave us no options to delete them ourselves, my trash folder is huge, 10mb approx. Believe me, in this situation, you are basically screwed. The "help" they give you is an automated message telling you to try deleting it manually(which you can't do anyway) and that you have two weeks before they delete your account(not a very favorable ultimatum). I say let them delete the account. Then never trust in FC mail to be one of your important mail accounts. Back to Top |
