Chapter 1
As she sat on the dock of Fironia Vie fishing, Absinthia Dellemorte began thinking about her life, and how much things had changed.
Seems only yesterday she first stepped foot outside the confines of beloved Kaladim, walking past those brave guards who kept the vile goblins from entering. Her time of training at the cleric guild was through, and it was time she set out into the world to put her powers to use.
She didn't have long to wait as a young woodelf ran towards the guards and collapsed at her feet, the guards promptly disposing of the crag chick which had been chasing him. Absinthia chanted a healing spell, and after a few moments he sat up to thank her.
His name was Kaisyd, and he told her he was going to meet his brother Eiregoth in the city of Qeynos, on the far side of Antonica. He invited her along, and she accepted.
On the boat to Freeport, Kaisyd told her that he and his brother were members of a guild called the Imperial Legion, and he was on his way to attend the wedding of the founder of the guild.
The journey was long, and Absinthia got to see much of Antonica, sights both beautiful and horrifying. She also got to see many strange and deadly creatures, and found her powers growing as she healed her friend battle after battle.
Finally they reached the city of Qeynos, where Kaisyd was given a message that his brother had gone ahead to Surefall to buy a gift for the bride and groom. Kaisyd paid for a room at the inn, and told Absinthia he would return that night. He never did.
Absinthia awoke the next morning wondering where he was, when suddenly there came a knock upon the door. She opened it, and at first thought it was Kaisyd, but no, this woodelf was older. He introduced himself as Eiregoth, and sadly told her that his brother had died to an evil necromancer named Tovax. Eiregoth arrived in time to kill Tovax and his undead pet, but Kaisyds wounds were too great, and he died shortly after in Surefall.
Eiregoth handed her a small pouch, explaining that Kaisyd had asked it be given to her. Absinthia accepted it with numb hands and tears flowing down her face. Eiregoth thanked her for helping Kaisyd all the times she had, then told her he had to leave to make arrangements. She nodded then shut the door behind him.
It wasn't until the next day she opened the pouch. Inside was a bracelet that Kaisyd used to wear. She slipped it on and immediately felt it's magic somehow enhancing her own. She then went to the Temple of Life to pray, and to think.
Absinthia blamed herself for not being there to heal him, and began to doubt herself. She felt she must return to the sanctuary of Kaladim. She did not believe she was ready for this world, so she asked Eiregoth if he would do her the favor of teleporting her home. He agreed, and soon she was walking past those guards, to her old home in the depths of Kaladim.
Chapter 2
Near eight months would pass before she would again venture out into the world. A new continent had been discovered, called Kunark, and her curiosity had been aroused. First though, she would travel to Surefall, to visit the grave of her friend.
When she left Surefall, she came across some old ruins, and was promptly attacked by three skeletons. She kept trying to use her magic but would get hit and lose her concentration. Absinthia began to panic, when suddenly the skeletons shattered before her in a flash of light and smoke.
As she backed away from the remains, she saw an erudite female floating a feet away from her. The erudite introduced herself as Amayii, and explained she was hunting for someone named Pyzin. Absinthia told her she hadn't seen anything but the skeletons. They sat and talked for a short while, and Absinthia discovered that Amayii was in a guild called Stormravens, and that she had a friend who could take her to Kunark. She told Absinthia to go to West Karana to the barbarian fishing village, and her friend would meet her there.
Absinthia made it to the village without incident, and was sitting on a small dock when a wolf ran up to her and spoke her name. The wolf was Amayii's friend, his name was Kaless. He would take her to Kunark, but he had to make a few stops first. He then cast a spell that turned Absinthia into a wolf, which not only disoriented her, but also upset a nearby barbarian who began to attack her. Needless to say, she ran and quickly outdistanced the cursing barbarian. Kaless apologized and told her he had to make a quick run to Lake Rathe to drop something off to a guildmate.
Absinthia didn't mind, as she hadn't been to the lake before. She saw strange looking gnolls, and large bird like creatures which Kaless told her were aviaks. He then told her he had business in Freeport, so that's where he teleported to next.
While he was gone, she decided to stop into the tavern for a drink. While she was sitting there enjoying her mead, she overheard someone say how a giant named Cazel had killed five people and wounded many more in the nearby Oasis. Absinthia downed her drink then headed to Oasis to lend a hand.
When she got there it was worse that she had thought, bodies were everywhere, the wounded were being taken to a nearby dock. She went there and found herself surrounded with people moaning and begging to be healed. She spent the whole day there, and when finally the last of the wounded was able to leave, she returned to her room at the inn. Drained as she was, she fell asleep immediately.
The next day, Kaless told her he would take her to Kunark. He warned her that it was a very dangerous place, but he would take her to the city of Fironia Vie where she would be safe.
Kunark amazed her, she saw a giant white dragon, incredible ruins, and some of the most gorgeous scenery. Kaless showed her a great windmill where many gathered before setting out on their adventures, then he took her to the city.
Kaless had to go, but he told her he would keep in touch, and that a few of his guildmates were in the area. He suggested that she meet them and perhaps they could show her around more. She agreed, and in the following weeks she made many new friends while adventuring in Kunark. She was even invited to join the Stormravens, which she happily accepted.
So now, as she sits on the dock of Fironia Vie fishing, Absinthia Dellemorte thinks about her life, how much things had changed, and how far she has come. She wonders what the future holds, but is not worried, for now she knows she need not face it alone.
Chapter 3
Absinthia had gotten an urgent message from her fellow guildmate Gaggonite, sarnaks were attacking the mill! She had been helping the wounded by the giant fort in the Frontier Mountains at the time, and was torn whether to go to the mill or stay where she was.
Luckily a druid came along and said he would heal those by the fort, and so she was off. She ran quickly to the mill, very quickly thanks to the druid's spirit of the wolf spell. When she arrived she couldn't believe what she saw, bodies of those both young and old strewn about. She checked inside the mill, it was empty. Then she heard a scream from behind the mill, as she turned the corner she saw 5 sarnaks strike down a gnome with their magic.
Anger rose in her and she cast one of the few spells she knew that hurt rather than healed, a spell of wrath. The sarnak didn't even wince, but turned to her and hissed that she was next. She ran around the corner out of sight so it's evil spell missed her. She circled around the other side and blasted it again from behind. Unfortunately, it's companions also saw her and she suddenly felt a tremendous pain and dropped into unconsciousness.
When she came to she couldn't believe she was still alive. Then she noticed a large group of people all surrounding the sarnaks, attacking all at once. She saw Gaggonite there and rushed over and began healing those who were in the midst of the fight. Within moments, the last one dropped, its final breath hissing a curse upon it's killers.
When the healing and binding of wounds was complete, the crowd began to disperse, and soon Absinthia turned to Gaggonite and asked him if he would like to accompany her to the giant fort. She told him the situation there and how his services were desperately needed, so he agreed, and they were on there way.
Chapter 4
Dear diary,
Well I finally have a chance to sit and write again, it seems I just haven't had a chance to just sit lately.
Last week I went with Gaggonite to rid the land of some zombies. A cleric in Rivervale told him that if we brought him some zombie skins (which he was fussy about where they came from) then he would reward us with a pair of magical boots that could only be worn by druids and clerics. So Gaggonite teleported us around and I used my spells to send the undead back where they belonged.
After many battles we had what we needed, and went to Rivervale. Can you believe that cleric was prejudiced against dwarves! He took the zombie skins I offered, but refused to give me my reward! Needless to say I was very upset and promptly left after telling him what he could do with those boots.
I was also visited by Brell himself this week, at least in dream. He granted me the power to bring those on deaths door back from the brink. I have since been asked many times for this service.
I have also visited Hades itself, or at least it seems much like it. A place called Solusek, in the Lavastorm mountains. The heat was near unbearable, but I was there to help my guildmate retrieve a glove from one of the vile fire goblins that make the place their home. Amayii, Botaro, Lanya, Qeyless, Gaggonite, and myself all went into the very depths of that hellhole. Attacked at every turn, and never knowing what would be behind the next door.
We didn't recover the gloves, but we at least eradicated many of the evil beasts, and we shall certainly return.
Chapter 5 : Homeward Bound
One moment, Absinthia was having the time of her life, the next, she was given a telegram that there was sickness at home.
Though she would miss being with her friends, family came first and she was needed. So she headed home to Kaladim, and hoped she arrived in time to be of some assistance. She did not know how long her services would be required, and hoped that her friends and guildmates understood.
