Birding Database - Name Variations
Created 10 Oct 2001

I realise that the three books I referred to sometimes have different convention in bird names. Some birds included in one book may not be included in another as present in Malaysia but these species had been included in the database as long as they are listed in any one of the three books. Species without ID for Allen J or Robson's books indicate that I could not find them in the respective books.

As far as possible, I have elected to use Allen J common and scientific name except when the species is not listed in that book. These names had undergone two rounds of checking in Oct 2001 and I hope I had kept typing errors to the minimum! Alternative common names are usually also recorded in the Speciesnotes field and are available for reference while entering sightings data.

If you are not sure, it is suggested that you search the species table using the scientific name to locate the species entry in the database. From there you will be able to check other data for the species.
