Trekking up a Limestone Ridge (Saturday 26 November
2000)
Fearing slippery rocks due to heavy rains over the last few days before
the trip, Mah King Wah changed the venue to another limestone hill in the
Bercham area, leading more than 20 members up this shady track to the hill
top overlooking the scenic Bercham area. Some paraboeas (a gesneriad) were
found growing on the limestone outcrops. Resting at the top members took
out their lunch packs and water while some took photographs of the surrounding
landscape. A pair of courting egg-fly butterflies (looks like the Great
Egg-fly, Hypolimnas bolina which is polymorphic) seem to prefer Sharon
Chan’s head as a possible place to lay their eggs.
