2. Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race ( 9-10 June 2001)
WHAT IS A BIRD RACE? A bird race is a friendly event in which teams
of 3 people (not birds!) compete with others in sighting, identifying and
recording as many species of birds as possible within a set location and
time. The winning teams will be the ones with the most number of bird species
recorded at the finish of the race.
MNS is one of the co-organisers of the
Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race, first inaugurated in 1988. The objectives
of this annual birding event are to promote awareness of Fraser’s Hill
as a bird sanctuary with a rich avifauna of over 250 species and bird-watching
as a hobby.
Besides displays and sales items put
up by MNS, WWF and Wildlife Department, there’s also plans this year for
sales and exhibition of bird art, bird photographs and birdwatching optics
such as binoculars and telescopes at attractive prices.
Participation, at RM30.00 per team,
includes bird race kit, souvenirs, commemorative bird race t-shirts and
high tea. That’s a real bargain! Show your support for the continued protection
of Fraser’s Hill by joining in the Bird Race! For more details, contact
Fraser’s Hill Development Corporation at 09-3622248 or MNS Secretariat.
