Recce Trip to Temenggor &Lower Belum Waterfall (19-20 May 2001)

A group of 15 members led by the branch chairman drove into this piece of virgin jungle in North Perak, slowly being opened up for “sustainable logging” by PITC, a Perak SEDC subsidiary company, in the Temenggor Forest Reserve. This company has a 30-year concession which was parcelled out into 30 compartments. Each compartment of about 300 hectares would take a year to log "sustainably". The recce trip was for base-line data gathering which in no way should be construed as condoning or endorsing such practice. Specifically it was a camping and hiking trip and also to recce the track for future trips and record any interesting flora or fauna that are unique or even new to science. A full report of the trip by the chairman is in Nature Notes & News.
