Gopeng Rafflesia & Butterflies
There are work being done by IUCN and MNS with regards to the Gopeng Rafflesia
and butterflies. Again this is at a very initial stage. As far as we know
a survey has been done at this area and talks are now being carried out
with the orang asli and the Jabatan Orang Asli. The issue in hand is that
forest produce is being taken out by the orang asli and the middle made
makes the mega-profits as in most cases.
The project is to ensure that forest produce taken out is at sustainable
rate and that the orang asli benefits from it. MNS Perak help may be required
in future to assist in recce or data collection. Further development will
be duly informed.
There are several other issues affecting Perak especially Belum Reserves.
At this stage sensitive to this issue is important. Members would be kept
informed and updated once green light has been given.
