Trekking in Kledang-Saiong Forest (12 October).
Mr. Ng Chang Chai led 27 participants to trek alongside a serene mountain stream before ascending a hill slope of endemic giant umbrella palms amongst lush vegetation of lowland dipterocarp forest. Other plants noted by participants included various types of fungi and gesneriads (didymocarpus). A large tree with knotted trunk resembling a "burl log" shown by the Chairman the night before was seen. The trekkers revisited a known Argus pheasant dancing ground in the forest unfortunately the site was found to have been abandoned by its previous user. However, they had to be contented with listening to the distant periodic calls of the elusive bird. Towards the end of the trek, the participants were all rewarded with a well-earned rest by the side of a cascading waterfall with crystal clear water and its refreshing coolness.
