Trekking to Pos Dipang Waterfall (Sunday 19-10-97)
Mr. Ong Boo Kuan "Moon and Mr. Mah King Wah led one of the biggest groups for an MNS Perak outing (more than 56 participants and one friendly dog - boxer?) made their way to Kampong Sungei Dipang, The trail started from the village school and meandered through the village, along the southern bank of the Sungei Dipang, following the river upstream closely. The distinct trail cut through a rubber smallholding before continuing on through an Orang Asli orchard of banana, durian, rambai, petai and dukun trees. Petai trees of various ages are common. The taller ones were in bloom. After about 1( hours, the trail peppers out to the river itself, about 300 meters below the waterfall.making it neccessary to trek along the water's edge. Most, if not all came prepared to enjoy the jacuzzi and the whirlpool of the 10 meter waterfall. Tired necks and limbs were revitalised! Raja Brookes and common Birdwings were seen here. The tree stumps along the trail were well endowed with bracket fungi of various colours from black to brilliant orange-red. A single orange cup fungus stood sentinel beside the only small stream we had to cross. Several birds were in song, but the dull overcast sky and haze reduced them to silhouettes.( Report by Dr Chan Ah Lak).
