Stewart Forbes led a beach expedition to Teluk Senangin (Damar Laut Peninsula, a few miles south of Segari). It is a nice shady area and accessible by car. The branch chairman led more than 30 members from Ipoh and reached the Ipoh-Pantai Remis (Highway 5) T-junction at 9.30 am where Stewart and another two cars were waiting. Stewart led the way to the beach at about 10 a.m. A white-bellied sea eagle soared majestically over us in the clear blue sky. There was plenty of shade along the three kilometer stretch and participants brought along picnic lunches and cooking gear. With a large map of the area spread out on the bonnet of a car Stewart introduced members to the area and what to expect.
Stewart showed the interested members marine life in a stream and around a small cove. He also pointed out signs of marine life on the beach, on the flotsam and floating vegetation. Leow, Liew and Chang Kok Kai had camped there the night before. They had been fishing from the beach the whole night but few fishes were landed. Dr. Chan Ah Lak and Sharon came earlier to the beach and joined Leow and company. Tan Ah Lai came with Missus for a spot of bird-watching and trying out his new Swarovski spotting scope. He reported sighting a gold-whiskered barbet in a tall tree. Leaveless orchids were spotted on the loose pieces of bark covering the Terminalia shade trees. The members slowly packed to go home after 4.00 pm.
