Bird Migration
Point Pelee is the southernmost point of mainland Canada in Point Pelee National Park, South-West Ontario. Established in 1918, Point Pelee National Park's vast areas of marshlands and its location at the juncture of two bird flyways make the park a natural sanctuary for migratory birds. Here the birds, especially the smaller ones, land exhausted after flying the width of Lake Ontario. Nature lovers, birders in particular, who have the time and the means should check out the times for the spring and autumn migration. It has been touted as a sight not to be missed as you can practically walk up to the birds and scoop them up with your hands for a closer examination but of course the birders code of ethics may not permit such a tempting activity.
The authorities charged with the responsibility of overseeing Tanjung Tuan near Port Dickson should emulate some of the practices of such parks in running a bird sanctuary and make the annual bird migration a major tourism event. The TDC should certainly coordinate such an event.
