Cicada on Alternate Website

Michael Yeh Kheng Peng has identified the cicada on the alternate website, noting: "The species is Aphaena sp. Of the Fulgoridae family (Lanternfly). The exact species name is not known. Also occur in Thailand (very common). Found one in Pulau Redang." Thanks a lot, Mike.

Public Service by MNS Members

A few members have also done us proud by telling the public about the MNS, especially about the Perak Branch. On December 12 1998 the Leo Club of Sam Tet Secondary School asked the Perak Branch to help them as their guest speaker could not make it at the last minute. Although many would have turned them down at such short notice a few members rallied to the call for help. Mr. Cheang Kum Seng gave an hour-long slide show on Malim Nawar, Mr. Leow Kon Fah talked on MNS activities and Ms. Wong Koon Yoke spoke on the role of Nature Clubs. Such selfless attitudes are to be emulated as they help to elevate the MNS in the eyes of the general public. The committee wish to thank all of them and hope others will also come forward in the same manner.

We welcome the following who applied to join as new members through the Perak Branch. If anyone is left out of this list please write in to inform the Chairman as soon as possible.
