Dear Puan Rosnani,

Re: Sungai Selangor Water Supply Scheme Phase 3 - 45 Conditions for Monitoring

The Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) welcomes the move by the Department of Environment (DOE) to station an officer at the Sungai Selangor Dam site throughout the construction period to ensure the 45 conditions are fulfilled. The officer should have experience in all aspects of dam development from engineering to safety and environmental aspects, and be able to call upon expertise advice where required.
MNS however, urge the DOE to disclose the 45 conditions to the EIA review panel and the public as the EIA has been commented upon by the EIA panel and the public. This will enhance transparency and promote a flow of specialist advice as well as constructive comments to facilitate DOE's role and responsibilities in the monitoring process. It will also inculcate public confidence in other future major or environmentally sensitive projects.
Thank you for considering MNS's request on behalf of all Malaysians.

Yours sincerely,

Malaysian Nature Society
