MNS Secretariat News 


1. Missing Journals.
The MNS HQ is at the moment rearranging and cataloging the library. We are trying to get the library up and running again. We are trying to get back some books and journal that are missing. We encourage members who have borrowed them or who know where they might be to return them a.s.a.p.  They will need to be bound and catalogued. Thank you.

2.   Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism Visits KSNP 
      YB Datuk Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir Minister of Culture, Arts and Tourism (MoCAT) visited KSNP on 13 July 1999. The Minister was briefed on the activities of MNS and toured the Park guided by Rajan. The Park will be submitting proposals for upgrading of amenities and infrastruc-ture to the State Authorities, as well as a proposal for promotional activities of the Park together with other attractions in Kuala Selangor to the MoCAT.

3 MNS 60th Anniversary 
       The Secretariat has progressed with various proposals with our 60th anniversary celebrations. However we are still open for suggestions from Branches and members, and are still looking forward to input on the actual month in 1940 that MNS was born. Any information on MNS’ date of birth would be most welcome! Various discussions are also in progress with the National Museum on ways to commemorate our 60th year.

4. Presentation To Cameron Highlands District office 
       The Secretariat conducted a presentation to the Majlis Daerah Cameron Highlands on 29th July 1999 on MNS and its activities, focussing on the Nature/Environmental Education role of MNS.
MNS is seeking suitable premises in Cameron Highlands to conduct Nature Camps and Education programmes.

5. 52nd National AGM at Kuala Lipis 
       Notification and programme of the 52nd National AGM at Kuala Lipis, Pahang on 29 August 1999 have been posted to all members. A wide array of activities catering to various interests have been planned, from white-water rafting to stargazing. Please book your seats early to avoid disappointment!

6. Promotional Programmes 
       The Secretariat carried out a short recycling programme with Carlsberg (M) S/B whereby old newspapers and used aluminium cans can be traded in for concert tickets.
       The Secretariat will continue to work on promotional programmes and activities as well as negotiate for benefits, which will add value to the membership.
       An official launch of the new Tapir range of souvenirs is also planned at the Tapir enclosure in Zoo Negara on 14th August 1999. Please contact the Secretariat for details if you would like to attend.

7. Membership Drive 
       The Secretariat has launched the membership drive. An incentive scheme for member-get-member has already been circulated, and appeal letters to lapsed members are also being dispatched. The Secretariat is also conducting presentations to the employees of major corporations. All members are encouraged to take part and reap the attractive incentives offered.
       The Secretariat extends congratulations to the incoming Branch Chairs and Committees after the recent Branch AGMs. The tireless and selfless efforts by the Committees are doubtless appreciated by all.
 
Calling All Birders!!

The Kedah Branch Bird Group under Tan Dek is organizing a trip to Thale Noi Bird Sanctuary in Thailand in December 1999. This sanctuary is located about 4 hours drive from Alor Star or about 2 hours from Songkhla. Seats are limited so please book early. Contact Tan Dek for more information
