MNS HQ Secretariat News
  1. Launch of MNS Tapir Souvenirs

  2.       The new range of MNS Tapir Souvenirs was launched at Zoo Negara on 14 August 1999, by our President Y Bhg Dato’ Salleh Mohd Nor. This range of souvenirs serves to profile MNS by giving MNS a face and personality. The baby Tapir born recently in Zoo Negara and adopted by MNS has been named Manja.
In many ways the Tapir signifies the uniqueness of our natural heritage, and as an endangered mammal symbolizes the fragility of our Environment and the need to conserve this precious heritage. The items are available from the MNS Secretariat shop newly named as the “MNS Tapir Treasure Cove” and by mail order for selected items.
  3. Events.

  4.  The Secretariat participated in the Exhibition on “Love Your Environment” at Amcorp Mall, Petaling Jaya, organised by the PJ Community Centre from 4th to 8th August 1999.  The Secretariat also hosted a visit by representatives from the Yokohama Association for International Communications and Exchanges. Tan Sri Khir Johari, President of Zoo Negara, visited the Milky Stork Reintroduction Project in KSNP on 22nd August 1999.
  5. Conservation

  6. The Conservation Department has been involved in a number of meetings with the Selangor State Authorities on the fireflies in Kuala Selangor. MNS has proposed a study on the fireflies and through this study, every effort will be made to help conserve the fireflies in Kuala Selangor. To address the larger issue of Water Resources Management, a Water Forum has been planned for November 1999.
  7. MNS Funding

  8. As an NGO, we have only limited resources and are dependent on external funding sources for many of the Projects and activities which we carry out. Very often we just have to make do with whatever is available. This is a challenge which the Secretariat views as a catalyst to innovate and improvise. We view each constraint as an opportunity to be creative. Sometimes the end result may not be as faultless as we would desire it to be; but it would always have been the best effort within the constraints of our resources. The Secretariat invites one and all to share in this quest to improvise, to make whatever we have go a little further. .
