Befrienders Ipoh has invited MNS to join their “Walk + Hunt = Fun” day at DR Park. Thus, we will be having a booth at the Park on that day, so come and support the event.

Endemic Birds In Borneo Wed 7 November 2001

Speaker : Dr Ng Soon Chye
Dr Ng will be giving a talk cum video presentation over the endemic birds in Borneo such as  the Giant Pitta during his recent visit to Sarawak.  Those who have the intention to visit Sarawak, Dr Ng will provide you with full information on places to visit and to bird especially look for the endemic species.Awaiting info from Phaik Imm

Malim Nawar Sun 18 November 2001

Migration season is on!!  Don’t missed this opportunity to watch open country birds like the different types of Herons, Egrets, wetland birds and passage migrant/winter visitor all the way from East Asia such as the Terns, Plovers and especially the large number of Black -Winged Stilts (Kaki Panjang).   Beginers and non-birders are most welcome as Malim Nawar - a very promising place to see  the passage migrant.
Please have your breakfast beforehand and be punctual. Bring along your hat, drinking water, binoculars, fieldscopes walking shoes & snacks.  Arrange your own car pool.   Most probably have lunch in Malim Nawar.

Scuba Diving At Pulau Jarak, Perak Sat 24 – Sun 25 November 2001

There are 2 alternative i.e. a day with 2 dives or an over night with 5 dives. Pulau Jarak is one of the furthers islands off Perak’s coast. The diving site would be to a depth of 60 to 100 feet, where the best can be seen. So call and make your booking!!

Member’s Nite - National AGM at Bako National Park, Sarawak Sat 15 December 2001

Gua Kelawar Sun 23 December 2001

Participants will have the opportunity to explore the interconnected multi-layered chambers of the cave system of Gua Kelawar. Gua Kelawar is also of archeological significance as noted by its cave painting and food remains. It would be an interesting follow up of the prehistoric rock-painting excursion at Gunung Panjang, which was conducted earlier. The trip is a caving activity as much as an archeological and geological one.
Light snacks and drinks recommended. Wear shoes with good traction and bring along extra clothing. Not suitable for children below 10 years old.

Try Your Luck In Genting Highlands  Sat 29  Dec 2001 – Tues 1 Jan 2002

 Try your luck to spot these beautiful & colourful montane birds along the old pump house road and telekom area.  You will strike the Hornbill Jackpot if you put in more patience and keep your eyes open.  If you can’t strike, the serene scenic view will be the consolation.  After  a long walk in the cool &  breezy path, you will be rewarded with tasty dinner  with reasonable price at Goh Tong Jaya. Please contact the coordinators for details and other information  before  20-12-01 as accommodation is limited &  booking confirmation is needed.

Cameron Highlands Sat 29 – Mon 31 December 2001

This trip shall be jointly organised by the Pahang and Perak Branch. Plans include a stay at the Boh Field Study Centre and a hike up Gunung Irau. Places are very limited and at the moment of writing only 7 bunks and 4 places in the bungalow are available. Please contact the co-ordinator and book early to avoid disappointment.

Introduction to Bird Watching - Fraser’s Hill –Gap Rest House Sat 26 – Mon 28 January 2002

This is a golden chance for those who wish to take up birding as a healthy, eco-friendly hobby and more importantly,  it is an activity which will keep you super young (quoted from Reader’s Digest).
Mr Ooi  will be generously displaying his fine & high quality collection of the digiscoping bird pictures through LCD to the participants and a brief introduction on the use of digital camera  with field scope will be given. Phaik Imm will touch on basic bird watching tips & rules and,  the use of binoculars. Birding field guide will be conducted on the next day & will be lead by senior birders. Fun games will be organized & attractive prizes to be won !!
New & non birders even without binoculars are most welcome !!
A small fee of RM15-00 will be levy on each participants to cover printing & stationery and rental of hall.  A small balance of the sum will go to Birding Group for future birding activities & the maintenance of  binoculars belonging to the Society. Your support is utmost important as all manpower  & time contributed are on volunteer basis.
