Mr. Stewart Forbes who is the driving force behind the initiation of the new SIG on Marine Life in Perak, will talk on the Group's objectives and proposed activities. He will show slides of his hobby, the joys of encountering nature on land (the water margins) and in the sea and talk about his vast experience with the sea and the various activities that we can enjoy in or out of the sea. Those who would like to go on the trip to Teluk Senangin on 14 December 1997, please attend the talk to make arrangements for transport and further information.
Caving in Gua Kanthan, Chemor

Gua Kanthan in Chemor is a favourite with the Perak cavers who are never tired of taking members there, hoping to catch the light display in this cave. Climbing up a steep cliff, you will be in a lush valley once you clamber over the edge of the cliff. From this lofty paradise you will see the cave's grand entrance which is alive with all kinds of cave fauna including crabs. When you see the fluted walls of the entrance and the multi-tiered flowstones in the skylighted chamber you will understand why it is called the Cathedral Cave. Participants are expected to wear proper shoes (no slippers!). Bring along water, food, spare clothes, a torch, spare bulb and batteries. Call KK for confirmation.
Bird Watch in Fraser Hills

Join Mr. Ooi Beng Yean in the Bird Watch up in our favourite haunt. Please call (10.00 �11.30 pm) and book your places early as rooms are limited in the Gap Rest House. Arrange your own car pool and main meals. Bring along snacks, walking shoes, binoculars, drinking water and warm clothings.

Dr. Chan Ah Lak, a very fit medical practioner in Taiping, has kindly consented to come to Ipoh and give a talk/slide show on his trip to Mount Kinabalu. Those of you who are interested in visiting this mountain please come and get more information from him. Members who have queries about coming events/trips or have information, especially photos and/or slides to share please attend the talk/slide show to meet with the Chairman and other committee members.
Beach Expedition to Teluk Senangin

Meeting Place : In front of Parkson Ria, Ipoh Garden
Mr. Stewart Forbes will lead a beach expedition to Teluk Senangin (Damar Laut Peninsula, a few miles south of Segari). It is a nice area and accessible by car. The plan will be to reach the beach about 10 a.m. (about 1 hour plus from Ipoh) and do some beach combing, birding, etc. There is plenty of shade and participants can bring a picnic lunch and even do some fishing from the rocks. On the way home drop in at one of the popular C&G seafood restaurants recommended the locals. Maps will be handed out to those interested on 8 November 1997 (Members' Night). Outstation members from Lumut-Sitiawan can meet at ......... (10 am). Please arrange your own transport. Suggested nominal payment to your drivers RM10.00 per passenger.
Birding in North Thailand
Date: 15-23 December 1997.
Mr. Cheaw Hon Ming is contemplating making an El Cheapo trip by rail and bus to North Thailand during this period, specially to bird-watch in Chiang Saen and Doi Inthanon as reported by Andrew Ponnampalam (NST 7 & 21 October 1997). The total cost may be in the region of RM800.00 per person. Those interested should contact him earlier to make the necessary travel arrangements.

Hopefully we will meet with Lim Kim Chye to spend the last week of the year amidst the cool breeze and the fragrance of the tea bushes. Please confirm your participation to facilitate booking. The activities planned include birding highland birding in Gunung Brincang on Sunday morning along the summit road hoping to see some species which are only seen above 6000 feet and trekking.
Cooking facilities are availble in the Field Centre or they be caterred by Mrs. Gopal.
