Members Night

Mah King Wah and Cheaw Hon Ming will give a talk cum slide show on their experiences while visiting some countries overseas. Mr. Mah will show some slides taken of his trip to Africa while Mr. Cheaw will show show some scenes of Northern Thailand during his birding trip to Chiang Mai and Chiang Saen (don't expect any bird photographs as they are too far and too fast for him).

Caving in Gunung Rapat Hills
Date : Sunday 22 March 1998
Time: 8.30 am sharp

Meeting Place: IGB Plaza
This is a beautiful cave which has not been explored for more than 10 years. Bring along your good torchlight, hat/cap, gloves and water. The trip will be over by 12.00 noon.

Trekking along Gunung Cabang Trail
Date : Sunday 29 March 1998
Time : 7.30 am
Leader : Ng Chang Chai
Venue: In front of Parkson Ria, Ipoh Garden Plaza.
This will be one of Ng Chang Chai's close-to-nature trips organised with the aim of introducing members to nature appreciation activities while engaging in jungle trekking. This half-day trip promises participants a refreshing Sunday morning trek in the midst of our lush evergreen rainforest richly endowed with its multifarious flora and fauna. Fresh air, tranquility and scenic picnic spots are guaranteed at the end of the trail where a cool, clear mountain stream awaits all nature lovers. Participants will also have the opportunity of visiting the rustic Pos Slim orang asli settlement to have a glimpse of the settlers' way of life. Participants are advised to be self sufficient in water and packed lunches. Trekking shoes are a must while a raincoat is optional. All interested members should call the trip leader for confirmation.

Birding around Ulu Dedap, Teluk Intan
Date : Tuesday 7 April 1998 (Hari Raya Qurban)
Time & Venue: 7.00 am sharp in front of IGB Plaza.
Leader : Ooi Beng Yean
We shall be doing some birding along the padi fields at the vacinity of Ulu Dedap situated about 1 hour drive towards Sitiawan from Ipoh. It will a pleasant joy ride as the country roads leading to the destination are scenic. Please bring along your packed lunch, drinking water, hat, binoculars/field scope and camera. Arrange your own transport and confirm with your trip leader before the date.

Mr. Ng Chang Chai will show slides taken of the 6 mile tunnel. Members who are planning to participate in the coming trip to this place should come and listen to Ng Chang Chai as he explains some of the highlights and dangers of this trip.

Teluk Harimau - Trekking, Camping, Birding and Marine Outing
Date : Sat-Mon 18-20 April 1998
Time : 3.30 am
Leader : Chang Kok Kai
Meeting/starting Place: Lumut Jetty.
This trip aims to cater to the varied interests of Perak MNS members - birding, marine biology, trekking and camping. Please arrange own transport from Ipoh to Lumut and back. Suggested payments to car drivers - minimum RM10.00 per person or RM30/- per vehicle for fuel and parking. This trip is strictly for physically and medically fit adult members only. Participants are expected to backpack and trek for one and a half hours through a forest reserve to reach an isolated beach where the camp site will be located. To survive the long trip, participants must be self-sufficient in camping gears, food and water for two days, trekking shoes, swimsuit, torchlight, slippers and personal toiletry. Interested members should call Chan Kok Kai (5 - 8 pm) toconfirm a place. Stewart's boat has not been satisfactorily repaired at the time of printing to confirm a trip. Revisiting the Six Mile Tunnel
Date : Tuesday 28 April 1998 (Hari Raya Haji)
Time: 8.00 am sharp
Leader : Chang Kok Kai
Meeting Place: In front of Parkson Ria, Ipoh Garden Plaza
Participants will have to swim 100 meters across an old mining pool to reach the cave tunnel, where they have to wade through another 550 meters to reach a wang at the other end. For safety reason, all participants must be able to swim. Each participant must bring along a car tube and no children are allowed. Please bring spare clothing for use after returning from the cave and pack your lunch, torchlight, drinking water in a waterproof bag.
