3rd
Sept: A Meeting Behind Closed Doors
As
support continues to increase for a wildlife area at Saxon
Gate, a meeting on 3rd September is held behind closed doors.
'Your opinion counts' says the council literature! Hastily
prepared notes are submitted to representatives in the hope
that the opinions of the community are considered. Remember:-
a skateboard park, playing field and bowling green are being
planned; but not wanted by the local residents!

August: Habitat Fragmentation Continues
Swathes
are cut through foraging grounds north of the balancing
pond making easy access for construction traffic!
Comment:- Habitat fragmentation is one of the major problems
faced by migrating amphibians. Plans are now being considered
for creation of wetlands east of the new road.

May: Good news
for
Glebe Meadows
The
Glebe Meadows, adjacent to the Arlesey Moat Wildlife Trust
Reserve have at long last been purchased by the Beds Wildlife
Trust. Contracts were exchanged on February 22nd. Negotiations
had been dragging on for so long that people may have forgotten
about the purchase. This new purchase doubles the
size of the reserve and solves access problems.

August: Unlucky Friday For Mid Beds District Council
As
destruction of the scrub land north of the balancing pond
continues, residents are incensed! A petition for the creation
of a wildlife area at Saxon Gate gets full support. Residents,
fed up with the destruction of their local areas of natural
beauty are fully supportive of a wildlife area and they
want Mid Beds District Council to know about it. Every household
questioned gave a positive response to the petition, which
will later be passed to council officials; along with suggestions
for development of the site in sympathy with wildlife.
