We arrived at the arena at 7 on Monday hoping to help with the arrival of the agility equipment. As mentioned the equipment was late. When Max 200 arrived with the equipment everyone jumped in and help unload and set up. We were short some ring gates and weave poles. Some quick thinking and the shortage of ring gates was compensated for. An attempt was made to use someone else's weaves (I think), but they did not fit correctly, so we waited for the correct poles to arrive. Even with all this, agility started only about an hour late. I heard no complaints and everyone was happy to chip in and help. Poodle people are the greatest!!!!
As a steward I was assigned the tire jump. This was the first time I have ever worked at an agility trial.......oh geeeezzz the tire? Since the equipment was late the tire jump heights were not marked, which made adjustments tough. The judge was very helpful with measuring the tire and we managed to set the tire properly. Between Excellent and Open we finally marked the tire and adjustment was easier from that point on.
I saw some terrific runs! Everyone really seemed to have a great time. In Novice Standard, I messed up......what else is new??!! I did not send Sedona onto the dog walk straight. She entered slightly on the side of the contact, managed to get 3 legs on the board. She then had to try and catch up to me and never got her footing, she fell off. I knew as soon as I sent her to the walk, I had made an error. At least I am learning to recognize my errors immediately! The rest of her run was great. Jumpers with weaves we had a great run, since I have no time to make handling errors.
At the end of the day, in a blink of an eye the equipment and ring gates were taken down. Max 200 loaded the truck. All that was left was a large patch of green sod, many tired handlers and workers, and the feeling of a job well done.
PCA Agility 1999 was a blast!
