Frankie

Frankie is the baby.
We decided that Frankie will bethe last ferret we purchase. There are so many ferrets out there that are looking for homes.
We purchased him March 26, 1998 at a wonderful pet store in Red Wing, Minnesota. This is one of my favorite pet stores. The lady that owns it makes sure you know about what ever 'creature' you purchase and how to take care of it. Some of her "help" aren't quite as good about this though.
The ferrets are kept in a cage for ferrets with hammocks and litter boxes and toys. They get handled alot and have play time in the back of the store. There is usually an interesting mix of colors available, though she never has more than three ferrets at a time available.
Being a child of the sixties, this store really appeals to me, you will just have to visit it to see why. It's called Incredible Creatures and is located in Red Wing, Minnesota. {They have since closed. Too bad}

Frankie's papers called him a champagne. I don't know what color he is, I think he is still 'developing' or growing into his color He's a feisty little devil though. His favorite "trick"right now is to catch you unaware and nip the tender spot just above your elbow. He doesn't draw blood, but he sure gets yelled at. It will be nice when he out grows this though. And he still doesn't know that humans don't want their lips nipped, they would rather have them licked

Frankie is afraid at the vets office.I think it's a 'flash back' from when he was neutered and descented on St. Patrick's Day. (The papers say that's when it was done - poor baby:( )
He's very quiet and clingy at the vets office. Our vet, Dave, says Frankie's heart is really racing when he's checking him out. When Frankie had his last distemper shot he had a small reaction. We feel it was the stress of being at the vets that caused it, so now Dave comes out to our house to give shots. We try to group a few of them so it's worth Dave's time to come out.

It was great the last time. Daveis on the floor with the ferrets and they are checking him out and the vaccines he brought with him. We had to warn him not to let Frankie orJoey crawl up his pants legs though cause they are still in the lick and nip stage. Dave was surprised at how 'active' Frankie was compared to how he behaves at his office.

Frankie used to 'live' with Sophie,Yukon, Danny and Joey, but one day he got to be too feisty with them and one of them bit his ear and made it bleed. Now ears are very vascular and will bleed a lot. His ear swelled up and now his right ear isn't 'perfect'anymore. It's hard to clean to, because of the way it healed made the opening into the ear canal smaller.
Frankie was moved in with Bizzy and the Little Rascals - Alfalfa, Spanky and Buckwheat. They were too "laid back" for Frankie so he resumed living with Sophie and her group. So far it's working out very well.
