The Little Rascals
We had responded to an online request
for a new home for three ferrets a while back. In talking with their owner,
we found him new ways to deal with his ferrets. After a time, he wrote
us again stating that he needs to find a home for them. We thought it over
and talked with another friend to see if he would take at least one of
them. He said he would be interested in two. So on Friday April 17 th we
went to pick up the ferrets. They are named Spanky, Buckwheat and Alfalfa.
Spanky is a cinnamon color, Buckwheat is an albino and Alfalfa is a silver
mitt with a black nose. Originally we were to take Buckwheat, but the minute
I saw Alfie's cute little black nose I knew I had to have him. They came
home with us.
Buckwheat and Spanky went to our
friends house. All three ferrets had problems at first with "upset tummies"
and didn't want to eat. Alfalfa finally began eating the first week we
had him and was soon dancing and dooking. Alfie was a joy to be around.
He follows us around watching us like a little puppy. We call him our Alfie
puppy.
In the meantime, Spanky and Buckwheat
weren't doing as well. After three weeks they came back to our house. Spanky
started eating again, but after talking with Dr. Williams, Gayle was hand
feeding chicken baby food to Bucky every four hours. This went on for three
weeks. On Memorial Day weekend we took Bucky with us to our family picnic
so he could be fed on time. He really enjoyed being with and the outdoors.
We also found out accidentally that he has a sweet tooth. Larry was eating
a brownie and Bucky wanted some. Later he found a piece that the kids had
dropped on the ground. (yes, I know they shouldn't have chocolate)
Later we found out what type of
food he had originally been eating and he's been eating on his own since.
Frosted Cheerios are his favorite treat now.
Bucky is a sweet and affectionate
ferret. He holds a special spot in our hearts.
