Sammy and Scooter
After we got home from the Chicago show, our friends' ex-wife
called us and asked if we would take the two ferrets her son has. Their
cage would come with them. Being the saps we are, we said yes. So on October
22, 1997 we went over to see them. They looked awful. They were kept separate
because they "fought". Scooter was missing hair and Sammy's coat was rough.
They were being fed once a day. They were so skinny. The next day I took
them to the vet for their distemper shots. They hadn't had any shots in
over a year. The vet thought Scooters thinning coat was due to poor nutrition
and/or fleas. We changed their diet and gave them play time and lots of
love. They were given "duck soup" daily. Soon Scooter was growing new hair.
We were thrilled. Sammy's coat is so soft now. And watching them
play brings tears to our eyes. Scooter is so funny when he rolls around
grabbing his butt with his front legs.
Sammy is about 5 1/2 years old and Scooter is about 8 1/2
years old. Scooter is beginning to have problems with his health. He started
having periodic bouts of hypoglycemia on April 22, 1998. In July Larry
found a lump on the back of Scooters leg. We had our vet check it out.
It's cancer.
After researching the pros and cons of having the lump
on Scooters leg removed, we had it removed September 21, 1998. Scooter
went through surgery well. I will add some before and after pictures soon.
