Bell South and Voyager Team up to provide fast Internet Preview! New Zealander's can now get their internet mail faster, thanks to a new service, Internet Preview, being pioneered by BellSouth and Voyager. The companies have reached an agreement under which Voyager's Internet customers will be able to preview Internet Email messages on the screens of their Bell South GSM Digital cellular mobile phones as soon as they are received in the Voyager Mailbox. This is the first time such a service has been integrated into a cellular network and means that the Internet now rivals fax and paging as an immediate communications tool. Starting in November the new service will be made available to a limited number of Bell South and Voyager Customers under a three month evaluation programme. While there is no charge for the service during this period, the companies expect to offer the service commercially earli next year. Internet Preview gives customers, immediate, anytime, anywhere access to their Internet Email, removing the need for them to log on and check to see whether any messages have been delivered. As soon as a message is received in their Voyager mailbox, the first 160 characters will automatically be forwarded to their Bell South GSM Digital mobile phone number ready for viewing on the screen of their mobile phone. Email messages received by Voyager and addressed to BellSouth customers will be forwarded to the BellSouth Short Message Service Centre over a dedicated circuit. The sender's name, the message subject and the first few lines of text, up to a combined total of 160 characters, will be forwarded to the customer's phone by the SECURE BellSouth GSM Digital Network. On receiving the message notification he can: 1. Using a Zaurus Mobile KIWIGREEN Office, with a GSM Modem and associated Zaurus GSM Short Messaging Software he can "cut and paste" from his documents ( or type in) his reply and send it back out to the Internet via the BellSouth GSM - SMS Service. 2. Or use the keyboard of the phone to type out a reply. As the service is intergrated into the BellSouth GSM Network this will allow network intelligence to be used to provide enhanced services in the future. The normal cost of sending a GSM Short Message is approx 7 cents USD.
