Up-loading files to the forum library from your SHARP zeros Sharing is what the forum is all about, and there is nothing more gratifying, than seeing hundreds of users download a file you have carefully researched, written, and then up-loadet to the forum. mostly this can be done from your home PC, but occasionally you will find a need to upload a file from your Zaurus. Either because it is a Zaurus specific file, which you want to share with all the people who access the forum with only a Zaurus, or your Zaurus is your tool of choice. If you have not attempted connecting to CompuServe before, I recommend that you read the manual for your Zaurus. You can also read the SHARP.CIS file from library 9. however if you are just going to upload a file, there is no need to mess with setting up the TER DEF file, also do not enter *ZAURUS to your userid, unless you are already using the Zaurus on-line in the terminal mode. I am going to take you trough the entire procedure step by step, you may want to print this file so you can have a hard-copy next to you when you start. Also make sure to read the entire document before you start. Before you connect, there is a few things to consider. If the document is text only it will become a .TXT file, and you don't have to prepare anything before the upload. If it is a text and graphics document, you have to file it in a folder first, choose a empty folder, and name it upload to make it easy for you to find when you do the upload. This file is a Zaurus folder file. and need a .ZRF after the file name when you name it on-line, so that people know where to put it when down-loading. BTW. you can include several documents in the same folder, this may be a helpful way of separating information, like creating a read me text and several documents with clipart. Finally there are PCfiles, these can be software, spreadsheets, and other files created by applications software, most of those is binary (BIN) files. A PCfile can be uploadet directly from the where is is without any further preparation. Well let us do it. If you have a terminal setup to connect to CompuServe, skip the next paragraph, and just connect to CompuServe. Go to the Forum you want to upload the file to. First you need to prepare a terminal, start your Zaurus, and tap on TOOLS then select TERMINAL. now highlight a unused terminal, tap on SETUP, select dialing info, Name the terminal "CompuServe" , then enter your local CompuSeve phone number in the number field, then select Parity = Even, Stopbits = One, DATAbits = 7. then press OK. Now open SETUP again, this time select MODEM setup, select 15pin port if you are using the CE-FM4 from SHARP. If you have a PCMCIA modem, remember that in order to highlight the PC card port, the card have to be inserted before you turn the Zaurus on. Then un-check all options, and press ENTER. Now you are back in the index view. the terminal should still be highlighted, tap on CONNECT the terminal will open and dial the number for you, when the connection is established you will hear the modems handshake. When the modem turns quiet, pause for a second, then press ENTER once. CompuServe will now ask you Host Name. Answer CIS press ENTER. then CompuServe will prompt you for your userId, enter your UserId and press ENTER. Next is a prompt for your password, slowly enter your password and press ENTER, if you make a mistake CompuServe will ask you again so don't panic. Congratulations. You have just logged onto a full size professional BBS. From here it gets easy. After CompuServe is done scrolling the welcome message past you, you will get another prompt line, there type the go word for the forum you want to go to. In this case type GO ZAURUS then press ENTER. You will now enter the forum, press ENTER once to get the main menu. there select option #3 for the library. Select this option by entering the number and press ENTER. Then in the library menu enter the number for the library you want. THE LIBRARY Now you see the main library menu, select option 3 to up-load a file, CompuServe will warn you against uploading copyrighted material, type AGREE press ENTER. Next enter the file name and press ENTER, Always use a three letter extension after the file name like TXT for text, BIN for binary, ZRF for a Zaurus folder. The next prompt will ask you to select a file transfer protocol, select x-modem. next you will select file type, if you are uploading a Zaurus Folder select binary, if it is straight text select text. press ENTER. CompuServe will start the upload, and request that you start the upload from your computer, Zaurus. Do this by pressing the UP/DN button on the Zaurus screen and select the option you need. for a folder select Upload folder / xmodem. tap twice on the option you want. You will now get a index for the section you did choose. Highlight the entry you want to upload, and press ENTER. The Zaurus is now uploading to CompuServe, and will display a message on the screen informing you about that, this may take a few minutes. When the message goes away press ENTER to continue. CompuServe will now ask you to enter the file description, this is a text of max. 549 characters, that is about 14 lines of 40 characters. I strongly suggest that you prepare that text on a piece of paper BEFORE you start uploading. I like to write it out on "math" paper in lines of 40 characters, then when I enter the text I press RETURN after each line, and don't have to worry about scrolling the screen to read what I am doing. When you are done entering the text press RETURN and type /EXIT press ENTER. Next you need to enter keywords to search for. enter the words with a comma in between, like this: Zaurus, FAX, topic, topic, topic. press ENTER when done. Choose key words which you would use to find a file like what you have just posted. Finaly CompuServe will ask you for a title for the file, max. length is 49 characters. when you have entered this press ENTER. CompuServe will now display what you have entered and ask you to answer Yes or No to whether it is right or not. If all is OK type Y and press ENTER. If not type N and follow the prompts to correct the information Congratulations, if you can do this there is nothing you can't do. I suggest trying choosing a quiet time for the first upload, where you will not be interrupted . Sometimes there might be a problem with the screen typing by itself when there is a prompt for you to enter data at. This is caused by noise on the line. The best cure is to wait to later in the evening, and disconnect as many phone appliances from you line as possible, the best signal you get by connecting straight to the jack, with no other phones hooked up, however if you don't have any problems, there is no reason to worry about this.
