*** PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE MESSAGE CAREFULLY *** Dear Zaurus ZR-5800 and ZR-5800FX owners, Thank you very much for purchasing the Sharp Zaurus. We have recently found a problem with the Zaurus ZR-5800 and ZR-5800FX built-in software that can potentially delete data and/or lock up your unit. This problem can occur if you are using the "Notes" feature and you rest your hand on the keyboard to take notes. We have completed the creation of a patch utility that will update the software in your Zaurus and also check and attempt to repair your data. Please check your serial number to determine if in fact your unit has this problem. DETERMINING IF YOUR ZAURUS NEEDS TO BE UPDATED: Your unit needs to be updated only if *both* of the following are true: * Your unit has a serial number that ends with either the number "1" or "2". AND * Your unit does not have a black dot directly after the serial number (located both on the box and on the unit inside the battery compartment). In summary: Units with the small black dot directly after the serial number (even those with a serial number ending in "1" or "2") have already been updated and do not require the patch. Units with a serial number ending in any character (number or letter) that is not "1" or "2", do not need to be updated, even if they do not have a black dot after the serial number. Also note that most likely any new units purchased after April 10th from an authorized Sharp Zaurus dealer will not have the problem. To be absolutely sure, simply check the serial number that can be found on both the box and in the battery compartment. Additionally, please note that all ZR-5000s and ZR-5700s DO NOT have this problem nor do units purchased from authorized dealers in Canada.
