For Immediate Release COMDEX '96/FALL, BOOTH # L1262 LAS VEGAS CONVENTION CENTER SHARP OFFERS ZAURUS APPLICATION PARTNER FOR WINDOWSr 95 Software Allows ZR-3000 and ZR-5000-Series Users To Seamlessly Synchronize PIMs And Run Drag-And-Drop File Exchanges Between A Zaurus and A PC LAS VEGAS, November 18, 1996 - PC users who run Microsoft Windowsr 95 and own a Zaurus PC companion now have a simple, seamless solution for synchronizing personal information manager (PIM) data and exchanging Microsoft Wordr- and Microsoft Excelr-compatible files between these devices. Sharp Electronics Corporation announces Zaurus Application Partner for Windows 95r software for Zaurus 3000- and 5000-series models. Zaurus Application Partner for Windows 95r, bundled free with the ZR-3000, enables any Zaurus user to synchronize the built-in Zaurus PIM with Microsoft Schedule +r 7.0 and ACT!r 2.X. The ZR-3000 allows PIM synchronization using a single-touch procedure, and Zaurus 5000-series models offer a simple three-step synchronization routine. The software also allows users to drag and drop desktop icons on a PC to execute bi-directional file transfers of Microsoft Wordr- and Microsoft Excelr-compatible data between a PC and a Zaurus. Installed on a PC running Windows 95, Zaurus Application Partner for Windows 95r places a "closed" Zaurus icon on the PC desktop that "opens" when it detects the presence of a Zaurus, either by an infrared port or via the PC link cable. To transfer PC files to Zaurus, users simply drag and drop Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel documents onto the Zaurus icon. To copy from Zaurus to a PC, users double click on the Zaurus icon, and a Windows 95 folder opens, displaying a list of Zaurus files. Users then drag files onto any folder on the PC hard drive. A CE-IR5 infrared adapter cable is included as part of Zaurus Application Partner for Windows 95r (ZR-AP2). Consumers who purchase a ZR-3000 receive the software (ZR-AP2C) and a PC link cable. Notebook PCs with industry-standard IrDA infrared ports also can communicate wirelessly with the ZR-3000. A bundled "enabler" utility on floppy disk updates Zaurus 5000-series models so the software offers the same performance as it would on a ZR-3000. Available in December, Zaurus Application Partner for Windows 95r (ZR-AP2) is expected to retail for approximately $129.
