There is several files in the library describing how to do that. Even better is that RUPP @ 800-844-7775 currently is working on a POP3 client, which will let you access your internet e-mail from your Zaurus. BTW. We are having a Zaurus Conference this Sunday at 3pm Eastern / Noon Western / 9pm Europe. It is about developing small applications for the Zaurus, using the PILI SDK which you can find as freeware in the library. Anything faster than that and I get screen re-paint problem (major flaw in Terminal app, experienced by most users). >>Treat Internet on Z strictly as an ADD-ON to your CompuServe account<< For me it is almost the other way around, mainly because I use lynx extensively (I especially like how nicely lynx fits the Zaurus display size). >>I've found that a working xmodem download helps greatly to reduce the screen repaint problem<< Interesting. I must try this. >>but this is very sssslllloooowwww, 2400 at it's best.<< I am not sure what you are referring to by saying it is slow, but I find that using lynx at 2400 bps is SIGNIFICANTLY faster when it comes to getting pages on screen or moving between sites than using MS Internet Explorer or Netscape at 14400 bps (no multimedia overhead). Here in Canada and US all local phone calls are free, no matter how long they last. >>Often the systems of ISP's are moved or reconfigured which can also become a contribution to the mentioned problems.<< I am yet to experience that. So far my ISP was stable as a rock. >>(Internet for the public started here last winter and CServe opened up for Joe Public early in may here(nederland).<< This is incredible! From what I hear other European countries have had Internet and CIS access for years. Even Eastern Europe has been on line for a few years now. >>You may not actually lose the mail itself but you may lose -possibly even permanently- access to your mail through pine.<< The chances of this happening are as low as of my computer being knocked out by a lightning. Never happened so far. But even if it does, there would be nothing unrecoverable there anyway. >>Type "mail" after the UNIX prompt and before hitting the "ENTER" key open the "UP/DOWN menu and touch "DOWNLOAD TEXT(ASCII)<< Thank you for the great tip. >>About that mail client for Z from RUPP , do not expect wonders from this , it could easily require 1MOct/Mbyte of main memory to run it(could it be downloaded directly into your Z from CServe or a"lynxed" shell with xmodem downloads support?)<< I do not expect wonders from RUPP's mail client. All I know that it will provide an easy and graphical method of retrieving and sending Internet e-mail, including ASCII and binary file attachments. It will be similar to AT&T Mail or Mail module of CompuServe Companion. It will contain TCP/IP stack. It is in early beta and as far as I know it works just fine. And if I recall correctly, it will have typical Zaurus program size - i.e. around 300 kB or less. As all other commercial add-on programs for Zaurus, it will be available on 3.5" diskette. You will need PC link cable or IR interface to install it to your Zaurus. You will be able to order it directly from RUPP (and yes, they do ship overseas). >>so you may have to jump camps and opt for PSION 3c instead which appears to have resident TCP/IP software<< First, why is it so important to have so called " resident" TCP/IP stack? The one which will come with Zaurus Internet mail client will work as well. Second, it does not come with Psion 3c, it is only promised to be available in the future. So it will also be an add-on, not "resident". It yet remains to be seen how well it will work. Third, it is my humble opinion that Psion 3c, not to mention 3a, does not even come close to my ZR-5800! >>About my msg's arriving as a continuous chunk of text: this is because I upload them directly into the forum<< I see. It is a bit difficult to read this way, but do not worry, I'll manage . BTW, I also got a copy of this message from you by CIS mail. It came through same as your forum message, except that the last few word were missing. I can connect to my ISP at 14.4K and run pine and other services without a hitch once I've entered the proper terminal codes...which I don't have on me but have a few messages about. If no one more qualified (and there *has* to be someone with more experience doing this than I) I could try to assemble the messages I've gotten about that kind of access...provided I could do it again without a hitch. Never ran into a document size problem, but I may be working with 'small' documents. I have a 28.8 PCMCIA modem, but it won't connect (I think it won't even dial) above 9600. I have enabled MNP in the modem settings (NO HW Flow control) and Xon/off in the dial settings - nothing else. It has been working fine with my US5800. I don't know if this info is useful, but voila.
