I've been following the thread regarding the problem with the VT-100 emulation at speeds above 2400 bps or the lack there of. In my case, I'm simply attempting to connect my Z at 14.4 to my local UNIX server and log on to our main application. After a dozen failed attempts I followed someone's advice and stepped the modem speed down to 2400. The success of my experiment has been less than total enthusiasm. Any suggestions or patches for this problem?? Thanks. Sure beats carrying a laptop. Some have 14.4 modems & some 2400 baud. We couldn't explain some of our frustrations with erratic performance (usually blamed hotel switchboards) but this could be our problem. If it is a known bug, we would encourage Sharp to respond with a bug patch if it is possible. When I hit enter the Zaurus sometimes paints more of the screen, but most of the time starts painting garbage. As soon as I change to 2400, all other settings remaining constant, everything's perfect. 2400 is ok, but 14.4 would be much better. If it's not to much trouble, could I receive the same set of messages regarding VT-100 terminal settings as well as the Pine and Lynx issues. I'm attempting to log into my UNIX server at various clients facilities with the Z in the VT100 mode, but my success has been limited when I try and enter the main application on my Unix box. I have no trouble getting mail messages from the UNIX server, but anything else is a crap soot. Thanks. In the mean time I have clocked up about 100 + hours thanks to a dialback and can conclude ZAURUS is now safe to use at any speed from 300 to 14.4 k bps . Only the screen cannot hang on above 4800/9600 (depends on host, not the Z) BUT EVERYTHING ELSE -file transfers , typing in messages on-line(as you may have discovered recently),WWW browsing etc goes well The only condition is that you MUST have a 14.4 or 28.8 PC card with full hardware-implemented(i.e. hard coded in to ROM or loaded in flash) link negotiation, flow control and error-correction /compression protocols and that you use scripted initialization and dialing.
