econd Chance for Animals, Inc. is a non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to helping homeless, abandoned and abused animals.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We help strayed, neglected abused and abandoned animals find caring, responsible new homes. Our volunteers mend broken bodies, hearts and spirits and give animals a second chance at happy lives, free from cruelty and pain.
Working with local veterinarians, we first provide immediate medical attention to make sure the animal is healthy. Then, our dedicated volunteers provide temporary foster care until just the right owner is found. It isn't always easy, but careful pre-screening helps. To promote compatible matches, a pre-adoption application is completed and approved before any animal is placed. We want the new home to be a permanent, happy one, for both the animals and the humans. With careful follow-up calls, we can smooth over any minor problems which might arise after the adoption.
HOW CAN WE DO THIS?
We operate soley on donations and volunteer efforts. And, yes, it is a challenge.
DO WE KILL ANIMALS WE CAN'T PLACE?
NO! Absolutely not! The fact is, there is no animal that we can't place. Animals with disabilities or with chronic behavioral problems remain in foster care indefinitely. Fortunately, these cases are rare.
WHERE ARE THESE ANIMALS HOUSED?
After being inoculated and given a clean bill of health, every animal is kept in a family environment. Of course, accomodations are limited, but foster homes provide a clean, safe environment where pets are handled frequently, responsibly and lovingly. Typically, they thrive under these conditions, making socialization and assimilation into a new home overwhelmingly successful.
DO WE TAKE UNWANTED PETS?
Typically, no.
While needy animals often come in multiples, new homes are carefully chosen...one at a time. Our facilities are usually full of rescues, but we will take photographs and basic information about your pet. Many people are very specific about the animal they wish to adopt. Your pet may be exactly what someone is seeking and we will assist in any way we can.
