In this lab, students compared the effects of an increase in solvent temperature on the solubility of two different solid solutes.  An attempt was made to dissolve a measured quantity of solute in water at room temperature.  The water was then heated in a water bath over a Bunsen burner until the solution temperature reached a specific temperature.  The solutions were then allowed to air cool so that students could observe the precipitation and recrystalization of the solutes.  Students were required to make drawings and written observations at various stages of the process.  Their observations and drawings were used to help form conclusions about the effects of increasing the solvent temperature when trying to dissolve solid solutes in a liquid solvent.
