The Dogo Argentino Urraco
Urraco-Bandito de la Bruja Roja
Hi folks !
My name is Urraco, I am a three years old male Dogo Argentino and I live in Germany.
On the 20th of February in 1997 I was born in Alicante, Spain to the Kennel "De la Bruja Roja" and my official name is "Bandito de la Bruja Roja".
At the age of 10 weeks I was brought to Germany and soon after that I met my owner Janine.
It was love at first sight !
Unfortunately Janine lived and studied in Bavaria during that time. Although she had heard about this thing called "Kampfhundeverordnung" she didn`t even have the slightest clue how her life would change from that day on.
Even though I was just a little clumsy puppy that couldn`t even walk with the big paws I`ve got, our neighbours didn`t like me from the first day on !
They said they would want a "fighting dog" living in their neighbourhood close to their children and families.
Janine tried to calm everybody down and promised we would attend a dog school.
But there was no dog-school accepting me !
"Sorry - no fighting dogs allowed !"
That was all they said.
And the taller I got the more nervous our neightbours became.
Once they even threw stones at me beause I was peeing at one of their bushes !!!
Janine started a fight and they called the police.
Policemen told us that I didn`t have the right to live in Bavaria as long as I didn`t pass a kind of exam that proves my kindness.
Though Janine was willing to pass that exam she was very fed up with whole damn Bavaria!
Three months later she was accepted at a university in Hessen which is in the middle of Germany and we left that awful place in Bavaria.
We have been living here happily for two and a half years now and everybody in the neighbourhood simply LOVES me.
Okay, there are some male dogs that get pretty upset when they see me but thats only because I am such a beauty, hehe.
Believe it or not - even the local police likes me. You wanna know why ?
Here is the story and the reason why I was nominated for DOTM :
In fall `99 after harvest time I was playing with Janine and my little friend Pepina in a lately plowed field when
I suddenly found a knife.
I indicated to my owner that I had found something by barking at her (like I do it in our games).
Janine came and looked at the knife and found it very dangerous looking and unusual for farmers work.
In this moment she remembered that the friend of our neighbour has been raped in this field in summer `99.
Just some days before Janine did her practice work at court and there she had learned that there was still a knife missing the rapist had used according to the victims deposition.
So we carefully took the knife home and police picked it up after I showed them the place where I had found it.
Yes, guys - it was the knife they were looking for !!
At the end of April this year the guy was fined five years of prison and two of these years he got for using this knife because police found his finger prints on it !
You can guess that Janine is very proud of me and our neighbourhood is happy to have two years more of safety.
Apart from that story I live a pretty normal life and my main goal is to protect Janine, tease Peppi and get as many carresses as possible from both of them ;-) .
To all of you who think of having a Dogo Argentino now, too, let me tell you the following:
The Dogo Argentino is not a breed that is easy to handle !!!
Read carefully thorugh the DA section here on Kaare's homepage and you will find out that there is a lot of power, strength and a HUGE hunting instinct inside of us.
Only because we live here in Europe and not in Argentina doesnt mean that we forget about our roots !!!
And only because we are tall and strong we will still behave like normal dogs and e.g. will defend ourselves against other dogs when they start an attack !
It`s up to our owners then to keep us from causing big damage and in this way to guarantee for a life without a muzzle !
I have 71 cm. on the shoulder and 46 kilos and although I am very powerfull and selfconfident I am also VERY sensitiv !
It takes a peaceful, calm and sure hand to lead us and a lot of love, patience and idealism.
We dont want to do work against men and we dont need nervous and aggressiv owners.
You wont find in my breed what you are looking for !

From this point I want to congratulate Kaare for his great work and for providing that many pics of all those awsome females ;-) !
Woof !
