What the vibrations feel like.

I received this message in a Newsgroup, and I found it very interesting, although I never tried it...

Hi All,

I made a discovery yesterday that I thought was important enough to share. It is for all of you who have not had an OBE and would like to know what the vibrations of OBE feel like. ( The vibrations are one of the signs your almost getting out of your body ). First I would like to say that the vibrations that are talked about in this group are *not essential* for having an OBE. Many people have OBEs without ever experiencing the vibrations. But if you do find yourself r having vibrations than you are most definitely at the gateway to having an OBE. It is a signpost and a very good one at that. So with this in mind if you are wondering if some of the feelings you have while meditating or after waking up in the middle of the night are the real thing, here is an experiment that you can perform that almost exactly simulates what the vibrations feel like. (Wow, I sure have your attention now don't I? :-) Here's what happened. I had a deep tissue massage yesterday (one of the benefits of living in Boulder, everyone is a massage therapist). If you are unfamiliar with this type of massage it is pretty much what it sounds like, deep manipulation of all the muscles in your body. This particular day the massage focused on my surface muscles and so involved kneading the skin across my whole body. Hard pinching of the skin and \ rather painful grasping and releasing of the muscles close to the skin. At the end of the massage my therapist took a large bowl, the kind that when hit with a mallet resonated deeply, like a gong. The bowl has the property that when hit, creates a swirling, phase shifting, deep resonating sound, much like one of those big tower bells. She held the bowl an inch or so above my solar plexus (I was on my back) and hit it with the mallet about once every 10 seconds. She also lowered it so it \ was resting on my chest and again hit it several times. The effect both times was similar. The result was quite phenomenal. As the bowl resonated the sound literally was absorbed by my entire body and I could feel the resonation's occurring throughout every part of my body. But all of the parts would shimmer at different rates just as the bowl was doing (the phase shifting of the wave front). I was so astonished by how much this felt like pre-OBE vibes that I thought I was going to have an OBE right then and there. Now I don't think that this experience was the exact same thing as the real thing (it might have been, one can only speculate), but it was so realistic that it was pretty much impossible for me to tell the difference. Like I said. I almost felt like leaving right then and there. If you don't want to do this with a real masseuse, then I'm sure it's something that can be done at home with your mate (if you are lucky enough to have one. I'm not.) The key is to have your skin pinched r tightly (to the point of pain) between the thumb and finger over every square inch of your body. Both the surface skin (shallow squeezes) and the deeper underlying muscles (deep squeezes) should be pinched. This sensitizes your skin to the sound of the bowl. This pinching should be performed for about a half an hour. Strike the bowl right after the pinching session. Of course you need to find one of these bowls. A good cookware store might have one or else a metaphysical store might have one. The bowl needs to have a very rich resonating tone that lasts for several seconds when struck. The one that was used on me was about 8 inches deep and 8 inches across. Well that's it. Have fun.

One thing is for sure. The vibrations are not the same for everybody. But I guess this helps... :)
