Bow Hunting, page 4

SPECIFICATIONS: These are the guidelines I need to go by as far as hunting dates. I will use the archery only season to hunt for either species of deer and either sex of elk. I have been out practicing again, and have gotten pretty consistent with a 20 yard shot, but the 30 and 40 yard shots are going to take quite a bit more practice. I stay within these practice zones, because of the lightness of my bow, any further distance is an unrealistic shot for me (at this time anyway).

Archery Season:

My hunting area is District 203. And the following are regulations for my area in the "Montana Big Game Hunting Regulations."

Archery Only Season is from September 6, 1997 till October 19, 1997

Lawful game include deer (either sex, either species)
Elk (Brow-tined or Anterless Elk)

I may take a mule deer or a whitetail, but living where I do, I must specify where I will harvest a mule deer if at all. I chose to stay in my own area. This is new to the regulation, in that previously, you would not need to specify an area to hunt a mule deer, but the record snowfalls this winter were considered to deplete the population in my area.

General Season

AlthoughI have no plans to hunt during this season my boyfriend does. The deer season is broken into two time frames.

 October 26, 1997 till November 2, 1997

May harvest an antlered buck mule deer or either sex whitetail

November 3, 1997 till November 30, 1997

May harvest an antelered buck, either species (which means no does)

 October 26, 1997 till November 30, 1997

May harvest any brow tined elk.

You must have special tags to harvest a second deer or cow elk. You must also have a tag to harvest a moose (general, or archery).

I really appreciate you reading on this far. Coming pages will include my tactics for the game I will be persuing. Thanks.
