Routine Vaccination
Disease
Age (s) to vaccinate
Comments
Canine Distemper Every 2-3 weeks starting at 5 weeks of age until 16 weeks old, then annually Not as prevalent as it one was but still a serious threat
Adenovirus type 2 same as above. This vaccine gives cross-protection again Canine Infectious hepatitis
Parainfluenza same as above. One of the causes of kennel cough.
Leptospirosis Same as above; some people like to use a vaccine w/o Lepto. until 9-10 weeks because of possible reactions. We've vaccinated pups as young as 4 weeks with vaccines containing Lepto and never had a problem.
Parvovirus (very important) Low Risk: Every 2-3 weeks starting at 5 weeks of age until 18-20 weeks old, then annually. High Risk: weekly until 9 weeks, then every two weeks until 20 weeks old. We prefer modified live vaccine and would highly recommend Fort Dodge's KF-11 parvo vaccine. ( You may also use Vanguard Puppy 5/CV-L)
Corona Virus same as for parvo in areas where Corona Virus is a problem We've never had a pup test positive of this disease
Rabies (Required by law in most states) Depends on local laws; usually given at 4 or 6 months , then a booster a year later, then every 3 years. Must be given by a licensed veterinarian in most states. Some states require a booster every year.
Bordetella Optional: usually given at 7-8 weeks and followed up with a booster 2-3 weeks later, than annually. A good idea to give it if you've had problems with kennel cough, or travel with your dogs to dog shows, etc.
Lyme Disease Optional: usually given at 12 weeks, followed up with a booster 2-3 weeks later, then annually. Lyme disease is transmitted by ticks and is becoming increasingly more widespread
