Hey you guys, Just wanted to let you know that Ive been invited to be the administrator of an awesome new forum...At first, I was reluctant, since I am so busy, but after seeing it, I had to say okay, because it had so many great features! (I think it is atleast as good as the old dragonstone board, that some of us old timers used to post on.)

Some of its features-

-No banner ads

-Ability to edit your own messages after you have posted it.

-ability to post in Html and UBB (I dont even know what that is)

-Control over how long in the past you wish to view threads and posts
(you dont have to go past all the old messages in
order to reach the latest ones)

-Can send emails directly to poster of a message

-Can receive emails about your message

-Unlimited space (This way, you dont have to create 'Sansa II' and 'Sansa III' every 100 posts or so, and I dont have to create 'A CLASH OF KINGS II' and 'III' every 100 topics or so)
And so on and so forth.

Its address is http://dragonsworn.blabmaster.com.

There are also forums to discuss sci-fi/fantasy in general, as well as topics such as WHEEL OF TIME and fantasy artwork.

Try it out!

(And Im looking for moderators for the other board as well, so if you are interested in moderating this one or the other one, email me at [email protected])

Seems like a cool enough board. I will remain here though, because there is a certain amount of knowledge that most here seem to have, that those there are lacking and I realy don't feel like explaining all the stuff we've learned so far.

Jeff, you're wrong. :-)
And I do not know how many Jeffs there are... :-9

A better board is available, in respect to technology and/or ease of use, but people won't use.
Hmmm.... Where has this happen before?
VHS vs. Betamax
Metric vs. English units of measurements
Dvorak vs. QWERTY style keyboard (QWERTY is the English standard keyboard, it was designed to slow down typing)
and of course, Windows (it is a _bad_ OS) vs. just about every other Operating System available.

I feel most of the arguments given are legitimate, esp. the "I don't want to rehash old arguments" one. I simply find this phenomenon interesting.

I also hope this doesn't develop into a rec.arts.written.scifi.robert_jordan vs. alt.scifi.robert_jordan[1] type split.

[1] that may not be the correct ng name.

Dvorak isn't particularly faster than qwerty. ;)

There was an interesting article on slashdot.org a couple of days ago just about that.

What Dvorak is, is more restful on the hands and wrists, and many common errors disappear. But faster? Not in particular. :)

Maybe I'll just try posting under "Rand" and get offended if the name's already taken. :-)

Glad everyone is staying. My loyalty is here. Don't want to upset my simple life by jumping from board to board. And I need clueful people around.

Thanks for the compliment. Watcher, the comparison is not really correct. It's not the board. It's the people.

If I would stop using Windows98 and use Linux instead, I would loose none of my friends...

Well, I really don't make it a habit to post on boards, but I do read through them regularly. I think the most prominent issue concerning this new board is support.

I know all of you are fanatic GRRM fans, but I'm sure you've noticed the amount of WoT fans on the web, the number of large sites, and the like. If we really want to spread the word about GRRM fans, It's our responsibility to do the like.

As far as I know, DragonSworn just recently put up message boards, and a Song of Ice and Fire forums are brand new. The thing is, every message board user out there didn't want to leave their boards, but right now on the dragonsworn boards, there's 1583 WoT messages, and 118 SoIaF messages.

Seeing as this is the only board I know of with forums for both series, it'd be a shame to let the Ice and Fire forum collapse like their LoTR one.

So, I really think it's the least fans can do to keep the board active, and maybe give WoT a run for it's filthy money. Maybe the odd post or something, but you have to consider how many massive wot forums there are, and this is the only real busy Ice and Fire forum. Least we can do is help establish another one.

I don't like posting, but as soon as I can, you'll see me on DragonSworn's forum.

Just to clarify, I meant that most wot users didn't want to leave their boards, but there's 1583 wot messages, compared to a paltry 118 SoIaF ones. Sorry!

Falcon, I think the problem for many of us is limited time. Posting _intelligently_ on a second board would require becoming acquainted with the current threads of conversation by reading previous posts, etc. I suppose it would be easy to hop on the Board, say "A Game of Thrones rocks!" and then leave, but I really can't see doing that.

It seems a little deceptive as well. I view other posters as friends and would feel a little guilty for starting a conversation and then skipping out when others got interested. It's not loyalty to the Board, but to the people on the board that matters to me.

Of course, that raises the rather touchy issue of loyalty to Revanche, who faithfully administered this Board for so long. Ack! Torn between conflicting loyalties. I suppose that means I'm justified in throwing an eight year old out of a window and having sex with my sister. :-))

No. Killing two innocent peasant boys and pretending that they are the sons of yourLord would help, though. That justifies nearly _everything_. :-)

And, you see, exactly this kind of conversation is why I will not leave here. :-)

Hey you all, Im still here!

I do post more on that board than I do here, because I want to get things going over there, like Falcon said...

Also, its easier for me to post on that board, because its so new...(Im afraid im one of the clueless people on this board, since Ive been away so long, I really have not had the chance to go over some of the long/ detailed posts, which is too bad)...

Right now, its really easy to post on that board- not much heavy discussion...

I think Falcon has the right of it...if some people can come in and post some easy stuff like their favorite characters, least fav characters, and so on, the board will pick up quickly.

You see, Revanshe, of course Falcon is right, and I wish the new board all success possible. But still, as Jeff said... the time... the people... the things already said so often... and so on...

I will surely drop by sometimes to support you (just let me know when you feel there's some defender of Theon needed :-)), but more than that... oh well.

Min, I completely understand... in fact, since I administer both boards, Im just glad people are willing to post on either one!

I must say this board has been far more successful than I ever thought it would be!

Revanshe, that is because it has a great Creatress... and because an extremely intelligent, loyal, mature, good bunch of people posts here. The people here are, for all that I know (and I know quite a lot about it) extremely unusual in the internet.

I agree with that, Min...

Although I havent been around much, it seems people who generally post here are intelligent and mature...Everyone can express their POV's without being flamed for it...

(I havent seen any major flame wars, anyway)...which I do think is rather rare for boards.

I've been away for awhile, due to having to move into a temporary shoebox (apparently a flat, but I'd like to see them prove it), which didn't have a phone line or room for my computer.

I am impressed though, at how little it has changed since I was here before in terms of the intelligence of the posts. I don't mean intelligence in terms of learnedness, or literary quality, but just in terms of rational, well-thought out, incisive ideas.

I definitely don't have time for more than one board, and this is the one I like best. (although I must apologise if i am for now one of the not-so-clueful, not having read the threads for a few months.)

Jeff - does this mean you want to start another Jaime discussion? I hugely enjoyed the Dragonstone one and the first one on this board - anyone out there revile Jaime and not heard the arguments in his defence?

Sphinx, you're right as far as the intelligence of the posts is concerned.

And for the cluefulness: Even if I stay away for three days, there are so many new posts that I cannot read them all. That's another point: People reasily accept if there are some ideas posted that have been expressed already. It would be stupid to mock that: Some of us are here for nearly a year now, others for just some weeks. So we have to accept that there will be some thoughts expressed in the 7th Sandor-thread that we already talked about in the first one, don't you think?

So there's no problem with that. You go right ahead and post whatever you like to tell us. :-)
